Lowry: "I decided at the last minute to jump into the 35+ 1/2/3 race at Bike the Bricks mainly because it offered a 2k prize list and secondly because I thought it would serve as a good warm up and a chance to recon the course for the P12 race later that night. As the sun set I lined up against a pretty tough crowd with a fully supported Chris Powers from McKinney Velo, Kurt Bickle and his Joe's Pro's crew along with a full Park Place squad. Having never done a 35+ race I wasn't sure what to expect but it started out hard....really hard. As a matter of fact the first 5-10 minutes of the 35+ was just a shade slower than the P12 race.
I decided to lay low and not prime hunt. I bridged up to a couple of breaks that looked dangerous but there wasn't enough cooperation to stay away for more than a lap or two. As the closing laps came around the field of 60ish riders had been reduced to less than 30 due to the pace and a pretty selective course. With two to go a Park Place rider made a great move and got a sizeable gap that he took into the last lap. McKinney Velo set up a nice train for Powers and I was having no luck breaking into his leadout as they were riding really tough and keeping me at bay.
With a full kilometer to go I decided not to wait and shot up the right side of the road as the leadout stayed on the left. I drove through two corners and had two more left and another 500 meters. I flew past the Park Place rider entering the final corner and had a quick look back to see that I had clear sailing up the finishing straight to give Velossimo and Chann McRae Coaching a pretty nice win."
